The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say, or do:
  First, Is it the truth?
Second, Is it fair to all concerned?
Third, Will it build goodwill & better friendships?
Fourth, Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Upcoming Opportunities
The Locker Project - Fresh food and baked goods distribution at Westbrook High School in the cafeteria.  One volunteer needed for each of two dates in January to work with Kiwanis volunteers.  1-2PM each time.  Wednesdays January 10 and 24.  No heavy lifting required.  If you can help on either of these dates, please contact Christine Johnson.

FBC Westbrook Free Community Meal - Saturday January 20. Monthly, free, community dinner. Whether you are hungry for a delicious meal or hungry to get out and interact with others, they would love for you to be their guest. Yes, you can donate toward next month's meal but it's not necessary. This is not a fundraiser, it's a community connecting night with great food. They've been doing these dinners for going on 10 years. Come and bring a friend.

Altrusa Fundraiser - Saturday February 3, Spaghetti Dinner at St  Peter's Episcopal Church, 678 Washington Ave Portland. $10. Eat In or Take Out 5PM to 7PM. Proceeds benefit Altrusa literacy programs.

Toiletries for the High School - Ongoing - Collect those tiny bottles of toiletries you are paying for during your next hotel visit and bring them home to help students in need of personal hygiene products. The HS Pantry and the HS Nurse are always looking to restock these basic supplies. You can always drop items off during the school day at the HS main office, or bring them to a meeting.

Donate to our Club's Charity through Amazon Smile – Ongoing - If you order items from Amazon.com, even if not very often, you can help Westbrook Gorham Rotary Club Charities.  Go to http://smile.amazon.com/. Search for our Charity and select it. You may need to login to your Amazon account before being able to finalize your selection.   Then, when you shop Amazon.com (always starting from http://smile.amazon.com/) a portion of every purchase will be donated to our charity.
Can Tabs for Ronald MacDonald House – Ongoing - Let’s keep collecting those can tabs over the winter months so we'll have a big donation in the spring.

CLYNK for Literacy - Ongoing -  Don't forget to keep filling those bags to help fund the children's books we ask our speakers to sign for the Baxter and Walker Libraries. Extra bags are always available at our meetings.

Change of Location for February 13
Mark  your calendars. This is early notice that our meeting of February 13th will be held at the American Legion Hall on Dunn St.  Due to preparations for a cooking competition on February 14th, the WRVC dining room will not be available that day.  We'll wish the students good luck and enjoy catering by Mister Bagel Westbrook.

We hope you will join us for an interesting program presented by Community Policing Coordinator Megan Perry. We may also have a surprise guest or two from the WPD leadership.
Interact H.E.L.P. Drive
The Gorham Interact Club conducted a “Gift Donations for Elderly Patients” drive to assist Maine Medical Center. Items collected included: mechanical pencils, colored pencils, and large print activity books.

Items collected for the Hospital Elder Life Program were delivered on December 21 by a delegation from the Club.
January Healthy Snacks for WMS
On December 21, just before the Christmas Break, $200 worth of healthy snack items were dropped off at Westbrook Middle School.  These items were used to stock the depleted shelves in preparation for the return of students to school in January.

Food insecurity continues to be one of the greatest challenges in our local community. Too many students arrive at school hungry and not ready to learn. Westbrook Kiwanis Club generously provided healthy snack items for December 2017 and Westbrook-Gorham Rotary stepped up to the challenge to provide for January 2018. We are in the process of challenging another local organization or business to cover February, and hope the trend will continue until the end of this school year. The hope and expectation is that The Locker Project grants and fundraising this year will allow them to add WMS to their list of supported schools in the fall.

Wayne Lopez PHF+6
During our meeting on December 19, Rotary Foundation Chair Steve Rand and President Bill Chadwick were pleased to recognize Dr. Wayne Lopez for his strong and ongoing support of our Rotary Foundation.  Through use of Rotary Direct automatic monthly donations, Wayne has reached the Paul Harris Fellow Plus Six giving level.  The pin sports a single red stone beneath Paul Harris's profile.

Thanks Wayne and congratulations!
