            1. Is it the truth?
            2. Is it fair to all concerned?
            3. Will it build goodwill & better friendships?
            4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Opportunities This Week

Donate to our Club's Charity through Amazon Smile – If you order items from Amazon.com, even if not very often, you can help Westbrook Gorham Rotary Club Charities.  Go to http://smile.amazon.com/. Search for our Charity and select it. You may need to login to your Amazon account before being able to finalize your selection.   Then, when you shop Amazon.com (always starting from http://smile.amazon.com/) a portion of every purchase will be donated to our charity.

CLYNK for Literacy – Ongoing - Keep those cans and bottles coming! Drop off your filled CLYNK bag at any Hannaford. Thanks to those who have contributed bottles so far to help purchase books that we will donate for each speaker.  If you need more CLYNK bags, they will be available at our next meeting.

District Literacy Project – Ongoing - We continue to need new or gently used children’s books (young readers and up to age 12, also books for older/elderly readers) to fill our distribution boxes at Westbrook Community Center, Stroudwater Food Pantry and Gorham Rec Center. Good sources of books include yard sales, Goodwill, and other thrift stores.  Also stores like Books A Million have "remainder" books.  Your generosity supporting literacy in our community is appreciated.

Accept the Foundation Challenge Match- The match challenge for donations made to the Rotary Foundation has been renewed for 2016-2017. The club will match any donation to the Rotary Foundation, dollar for dollar up to $100 in that member’s name.  For folks who newly sign up for Rotary Direct (automatic monthly payments from credit card or bank account) the club will add a one-time $25 donation to the Foundation.  If you have not yet made a donation in the 2016-2017 Rotary year, please consider accepting this challenge!! To donate on line, go to https://my.rotary.org/en/rotary-foundation

Welcome Spring Dinner is April 4
With our planned celebration of St Patrick's Day canceled due to inclement weather, we worked diligently with Chef Limoggio and other folks to identify an alternate date when our program elements could be available. We are pleased to say that we will WELCOME SPRING with dinner on Tuesday April 4.

Please note that this week on March 21, we will hold a regular meeting at lunch with a belated St Patrick's Day celebration including something special from the Chef.  There will be no lunch meeting on April 4 prior to the rescheduled dinner event.

On Tuesday April 4, beginning at 5:45PM, the Westbrook High School Jazz Combo will entertain us.  Dinner will begin promptly at 6PM, while the band continues to play. The menu will be made available shortly, but there will vegetarian and gluten free options. For more info and to sign up: http://westbrookgorhamrotary.org/event/welcome-spring-dinner/   Or you may sign up at our next meeting.

There will be a short program starting at 6:50PM. PDG Sheila Rollins will make a presentation to our club for 2015-2016 accomplishments, followed by the induction of our two newest members Scott Linscott and Becky Albert who will say few words about themselves.  Their Classification talks will happen at a future date.

Finally, Bill Chadwick will provide us a report on his recent trip to Guatemala, our District Grant, and other works accomplished on that trip.  We plan to wrap up promptly at 7:30PM.

We hope to see everyone there!!

Rotary Foundation Named World's Outstanding Foundation
From the March 2017 issue of The Rotarian:

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) recognized The Rotary Foundation at the end of 2016 with its annual Outstanding Foundation Award. The award honors organizations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others, and involvement in the public affairs. Some of the biggest names in American giving - Kellogg, Komen and MacArthur, among others - are past honorees.

AFP's Committee of judges cited Rotary's comprehensive campaign to eradicate polio as a major driver of the selection. They also noted Rotary's methodical , purposeful approach to supporting a wide variety of causes, from providing clean water to educating the next generation of peace professionals.
