Upcoming Opportunities
The Locker Project at Westbrook Community Center – 4-5:30PM Wednesday July 26. Two volunteers needed. Volunteers help arrange produce and groceries on tables, then assist students and parents with bagging the food to take home. You will be a welcoming presence, making sure people know they are invited to take food. Everyone is invited to bring food home with them. Contact Christine Johnson

FBC Guatemala Mission Fundraiser – Scott & Robin Linscott, along with others from FBC, are returning to the Noah’s Ark School, Oratorio Guatemala in April 2018. FBC needs yard sale items for the upcoming fundraiser. If you were putting off de-cluttering your attic or garage, here is an excuse to just get it done for a good cause! You can drop off your items Sunday morning 7/30 or next Monday-Friday 7/31 to 8/4 from 9 am – 2 pm.  Or drop by the church to shop on Saturday morning August 5.  If you prefer, you can make a direct donation on line at: https://app.easytithe.com/g3/ No need to create an account or login when you select Quick Give.

Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race – Our own Mike Foley is running to raise funds for Let’s Go, a program of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.  Read more about Let’s Go at letsgo.org . Show your support for Mike by donating at his page: Mike Foley Lets Go Beach to Beacon . Race is August 5.

Summer Concerts in the Park - Once again, legionnaires will be selling grilled and other food items at every Wednesday night concert in the park from July 5th until August 21st. Please come enjoy the free music and support your local veterans at the same time.

Donate to our Club's Charity through Amazon Smile – Ongoing - If you order items from Amazon.com, even if not very often, you can help Westbrook Gorham Rotary Club Charities.  Go to http://smile.amazon.com/. Search for our Charity and select it. You may need to login to your Amazon account before being able to finalize your selection.   Then, when you shop Amazon.com (always starting from http://smile.amazon.com/) a portion of every purchase will be donated to our charity.

CLYNK for Literacy – Ongoing - Keep those cans and bottles coming! Drop off your filled CLYNK bag at any Hannaford (drop off locations can be found at: https://www.clynk.com/locations/maine/ . Thanks to those who have contributed bottles so far to help purchase books that we donate for each speaker.  If you need more CLYNK bags, they are available at each meeting.
Three Years in a Row
Thanks to all who donated to the Rotary Foundation during the last Rotary year. Donations to the annual fund were up 15% over last year.  Total donations to the Annual Fund and Polio Plus exceeded $9000.  On a per capita basis, that places us in the top 20% of our district.  Exciting news as we close out the 100th Anniversary Celebration.

This is our third year in a row where both our total giving and per capita giving have increased over the previous year.  Thanks to all who support our Foundation “doing good in the world”.
CLYNK Pays Dividends
In the most recent quarter, we received $122.35 from Hannaford Community Cash. This brings our CLYNK total for three quarters to over $269 in money raised. A huge thanks to the Gorham High School Interact Club who filled several bags this quarter that boosted our total. Also, thanks to everyone who has been filling bags for literacy.  Please keep them coming!

New bags are available at each meeting. This bottle collection project helps us purchase children’s books for our speakers to sign and donate to our local libraries.  In addition, tabs removed from the aluminum cans can be saved for donation to Ronald McDonald House.
A Very Special Lobster Bake
On July 11, our annual lobster bake was held on beautiful Sebago lake at the summer home of Henry Saunders and Karen Reilly.  Dan Willett and former WG Rotary member Walt Stinson cooked the lobsters, corn and potatoes, with assistance from Ellen Stinson and Julie Carmichael.  Bill Chadwick manned the grill for those of us who prefer “turf” over “surf”.  Nelson Harmon transported the lobsters and members brought salads, appetizers, beverages and desserts to complete the meal. The weather cooperated to provide another wonderful evening.

A great addition this year was a hot dog steamer used to raise additional funds for polio eradication.  We are pleased to report that $68 dollars was raised and immediately sent to the Foundation towards the push to finally eradicate polio.

Prior to the meal, we were treated to the musical talents of Woody Beach.  Woody came in full Scottish regalia and played his bagpipes as the American flag was raised over Long Point. After the flag was raised, he treated the group to additional tunes as final dinner preparations were made.

This year was made more special by the 50th anniversary of two of our members. Both Nelson Harmon and Henry Saunders recently reached the 50-year milestone in Rotary.  Their dedication to Rotary is an inspiration to us all. Each received a rosewood box with engraved plague acknowledging this amazing milestone of Service Above Self.

As is our custom, we ended the evening with a sing-along enjoying views of Sebago Lake and the White Mountains.  A good time was had by all.

There is a lot of work behind the scenes to make the location ready and to source and prepare the food. Thanks to all who made this wonderful evening possible: Walt and Ellen Stinson, Dan Willett, Julie Carmichael, Nelson Harmon, Wayne Lopez, Bill Chadwick, and Phil Spiller.

See you next year!
