Can Tabs for Ronald MacDonald House – Ongoing - Thank you for continuing to collect can tabs. Please bring your collection to our meeting on May 8, or any subsequent meeting this spring/summer. Pat and Cliff Plummer and looking forward to accepting them for Ronald McDonald House.

The Locker Project - Note change of time for rest of School Year due to elimination of early release. Fresh food and baked goods distribution at Westbrook High School in the cafeteria.  Two or three volunteer needed for each of these upcoming dates.  Approx 1:45-3PM each time.  Sign in at front office and go to cafeteria. Wednesdays May 2, 16, 30 and June 13. First event at Westbrook Community Center will be June 27. Help lay out food on tables and interact with the kids to encourage them to take items. You will be a welcoming presence, making sure people know they are invited to take food. Everyone is invited to bring food home with them. This a great way to de-stigmatize free food distributions, particularly in the case of fresh food that would otherwise be wasted. If you can help on any of these dates, please contact Christine Johnson.  For more information, or to donate, visit their website: mainelockerproject.org

60th Anniversary Celebration
This week!!  Come join the fun and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the completion of the first Rotary house at 42 Libby Ave in Westbrook.  The celebration starts at 6PM with hors d’oeuvres provided by the Culinary students and tours of the building trades classrooms led by current students.  We will also be treated to few words from some special guests who have been involved in the program over the years.

We look forward to see you all at WRVC to celebrate this signature project. This celebration is open to all members, guests, former faculty of the school, and those in the community who have supported the program over the years.  Please feel free to invite and bring someone you know who has been involved with this project over the years.

There is no charge, but donations are gladly accepted to help defray the costs.
Rock Row - Waterstone's Gateway Project
Waterstone Property Group was formed in 2006.  They currently have 65+ properties with over 7M square feet of space, mostly along the East coast. They are an organization known for engaging with the local community.

Greg Day, Director of New Business, told us that Waterstone seeks to learn from a community to develop long term strategies as they develop properties.  They also like to hold regular community events that run all year long. They believe the 26-acre former quarry, which is now naturally filling with water, can become a major asset in the development and to the community.  The marketing theme for this property is “Rock Row” in recognition of the site’s former use.

The Blue Rock site has regional as well as local appeal. It is situated along the Maine Turnpike (US95) between two exits. Pan Am rail bi-sects the property and infrequently runs freight for SAPPI. While this divides the property into a north and south campus, this rail could become an asset.  They are in discussions about a possible passenger rail link to Portland and have commissioned a study on the feasibility of linking this property to Portland Transportation Center and to the top of Commercial St.

Development of this property has been inspired by other properties that have been developed around the country. Like Avalon in Alpharetta, GA which offers a family-friendly atmosphere including a shopping center, apartments, movie theater and community events. They look to provide products that fulfill needs and experiences that fulfill desires.  That could include grocery/retail, restaurants, housing, outdoor recreation/activities, theater, concert venue, indoor entertainment/activities and transportation.

Site works has started, as have intersection improvements at 7-8 intersections in the area. Market Basket, which will front on Main St, is slated to open in fall 2019 as part of phase 1. The rest of the development will phase in through 2021.
