The newest Rotary Club in District 7780 - New Voices Rotary Club - was presented their charter on Saturday June 15, 2019 at Camp Hinds in Raymond ME. There are 33 charter members in this new club, all between the ages of 18 and 30. All are alumni of District 7780's RYLA. They now live in places all across the country and meet periodically via Skype. One of the founding members is Katelyn Chapman Gendron (pictured here with Jeffry Cadorette), As a Sophmore at Westbrook High School, she was sponsored by our club to attend RYLA,
Co-President Sam Klemarczyk, currently living in RI, welcomed all who attended. District Governor John Lobosco offered some additional words of welcome and congratulations, as did RI Director Jeffry Cadorette. Jeffry also brought a message from RI President Barry Rassin which was recorded during the International Convention in Germany. The Rotary world is excited at the formation of this innovative new club. Phil Giordano, our District's RYLA Director gave the keynote address and spoke to articulating your goals and taking steps to reach them. DG Nominee Peggy Belanger and DG Nominee Designate Dick Hall also participated in the awarding of the membership certificate, pin and hats.
Following the chartering event, new club members, other District 7780 Rotarians, and guests moved to the new dining hall to re-group and fan out across the grounds to work on various projects to finalize preparations for RYLA 2019 which begins Sunday June 23.

On June 11, 2019, we emptied the Polio Plus cans for the last time this Rotary year. The $50 you donated in our cans in this quarter will be matched by the club. A check for $100 will be sent to the Rotary Foundation by the end of the month, designated to polio eradication efforts.
In the 2018-2019 Rotary year, Westbrook-Gorham Rotary has donated $882 to polio eradication to date. With this additional $100, we should end the year very close to the $1000 mark.
Thanks to all who have made donations each week in the cans. Also thanks to those who choose to direct their Foundation giving to polio eradication.

Children's Books for Pantries - We continue to supply new and gently used children's books to food pantries about every two weeks. We have been fortunate to obtain a regular supply of used books from Goodwill Buy the Pound. We also periodically obtain new books from a couple of sources at little cost. However, the need is always greater than the supply. If you, a family member, friend or colleague have children or grandchildren who have outgrown their books, we'd love to have them to share with children who will love them. All ages from babies to young teens. We can also always use large print books for older readers. Bring to any club meeting or contact Christine Johnson for pick up.
Can Tabs for Ronald McDonald House - Thank you for continuing to collect can tabs. It's and easy way to help a wonderful organization! Just keep a small plastic bag or small jar in your kitchen, on the counter or in a drawer. As you go to toss your returnable can into your CLYNK bag, simply twist off the tab first.
CLYNK for Literacy - Ongoing - Don't forget to keep filling those bags to help fund the children's books we ask our speakers to sign for the Baxter and Walker Libraries. Extra bags are always available at our meetings. If you have been working on filling a bag for a very long time (6 months or more), please consider returning it and starting a new one. Thank you for your ongoing support of this fundraiser!
Donate to our Club's Charity through Amazon Smile – Ongoing - If you order items from Amazon.com, even if not very often, you can help Westbrook Gorham Rotary Club Charities. Go to http://smile.amazon.com/. Search for our Charity and select it. You may need to login to your Amazon account before being able to finalize your selection. Then, when you shop Amazon.com (always starting from http://smile.amazon.com/) a portion of every purchase will be donated to our charity.
If you have an idea for a speaker or program, look for a sign-up sheet and an upcoming meeting or contact Christine Johnson at cejinmaine@gmail.com or Phil Spiller at pdsflynavy@gmail.com .
