District Visioning Event is Coming Up
The District Vision and Planning Committee is hosting the 10th in a series of “Vision to Plan” Workshops on Thursday, October 19th, 2017.   They will continue focus on Club Leadership Development, and will add a new focus area:  Inter-Club Collaboration.   Skills developed at these workshops benefit all as Rotarians, as well as in other personal activities.

They will continue work to help clubs in sharpening the annual planning process.   The training will benefit new and experienced club leaders, committee members, and new Rotarians who are looking to make a difference.   All clubs, whether the club has been Visioned or not, are welcome.

SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time based) objectives and goals will be discussed and developed in breakout sessions.   The skills developed will help lead to stronger and more engaged clubs.

Rotary House #46
Work on the next Rotary house through the WRVC has begun. This will be the 46th house since the program's inception in 1956. The house is located at the very end of Declaration Dr, a dead-end street in a Pride’s Corner neighborhood.

The building envelop has been determined. Some clearing has been done to allow the property to be surveyed by Sebago Technics. Look for more updates as the design and build progresses.

Bits and Pieces from Club Assembly
With President Bill Chadwick visiting his son in Texas, President Elect Kate Wight ran the meeting.  After a wonderful lunch prepared and served by Chef and the culinary students, we conducted our meeting.

 - CLYNK: Thanks to all who returned bags this most recent quarter. We are expecting a check for about $111 that will be used to defray the cost of children’s books we ask our speakers to sign.
 - October in Rotary: October is Economic and Community Development month. Also, World Polio Day is October 24. RI has requested that all clubs celebrate in some way and publicize this special date in their community.
 - Rotary Foundation: Our club is making good progress to goal for both annual fund and polio plus donations. Thanks to all members for this great progress.  Steve Rand noted that 11 members are signed up for Rotary Direct, an easy way to donate at regular intervals monthly, quarterly or yearly in any amount. He would like to help at least two more members sign up. It is easy to do on line at www.my.rotary.org and click on the menu option for The Rotary Foundation. If you have questions or would like to learn more, please contact Steve.
- Club Protection: Dave Rolfe reminded us to always be aware of potential exposure when working with youth or other vulnerable persons. We’ll be reviewing District training material and an upcoming meeting.
- Interact: The Gorham High School club is now up to about 100 members. Both Westbrook and Gorham clubs will be sending students on the Rotary UN Day trip in November.
- Vocational Service: Judith and Owens were to meet with WRVC staff after the club meeting. The lot at the end of Declaration Dr is “challenging” due to elevations. The lot survey has been completed.
- Community Service: Reading program at Village School Gorham is expected to resume.  Kate will contact the school to discuss a start time.  If you are interested in participating this year, please contact Kate Wight.  The Locker Project continues at WHS each first and third Wednesday of the month. Volunteers will be needed from our club at least once a month.  Contact Christine Johnson if interested in any date. We will continue to publish local opportunities to help in our community in the Scribbler each week.  If you know of a local fundraiser or hands on service project that you think our members might be interested in, please send into to cejinmaine@gmail.com
- Golf: The tournament was a big success with what we believe to be record income.  Final numbers will be available soon after remaining payments are collected. We had a record 44 hole sponsors this year. Steve challenged us to reach 50 next year.  We had 15 teams this year and we are challenged to reach 20 teams for next year.  Please let Steve Rand or Ethan Johnson know of any suggestions for next year’s tournament. One change will be much larger font on the hole sponsor signs!! Target date is September 18, 2018.
- Christmas Trees: The trailer needs to be painted, and the suggestion is to make it festive (possibly red and white stripes). Targeting Saturday Nov 4 to paint and possibly include WHS Interact. Kate would like the following additions to make the sale area more festive this year: Music to play while we are open (Carlo has speakers he can loan us), small Candy canes to hand out, create a hashtag we can use in social media, Square so we can take credit cards, Santa on one or two weekends.
