Rotary's Seven Areas of Focus
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Winter Weather Reminder
If Westbrook Schools are closed due to weather, there will be no Rotary lunch meeting that day, but we will plan to meet via Zoom on our regular meeting link. Cancellations are usually not announced by the school district until early in the morning, but we will make every effort to send out notice to members as soon as possible. Please monitor weather reports and check available sources that report closures. Note that a delay in school opening may still allow us to hold our meeting, dependent on expected travel conditions.
Westbrook-Gorham Rotary This Week
This week we are happy to celebrate 20 years of meeting at the WRVC Culinary Arts Dining Room - February 2002 to February 2022. We are so very lucky to have this ongoing relationship with Westbrook Regional Vocational Center!!
Upcoming Meetings
There will be no meeting next week, February 22, 2022 due to school vacation.  See the list of Speakers included with this newsletter for currently scheduled programs and speakers.
If you have ideas for speakers or programs, please contact President Andy or PE Christine. We want to schedule speakers of interest to all members.
Recent Board Action
At the Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club board meeting on February 8, the board voted to fill two vacancies on the board as provided for in Club Bylaws.  Christine Johnson, current Secretary, has been approved as President Elect.  Crystal Brown has been approved as Vice President.  Christine will continue in her dual role until the new board is elected for the 2022-2023 Rotary year.
The rest of current board is:  Andy Turcotte, President; Kathi Perkins, Immediate Past President; Karen Arnold, Treasurer; Dave Rolfe, Protection Officer; Michael Fandell, Sergeant-at-Arms; Steve Rand, Foundation Chair & Director; Judith Reidman, Vocational Service Chair & Director.
Call for Nominations
As prescribed in our Bylaws, the Board of the Rotary Club of Westbrook-Gorham has issued a call for nominations for the 2022-2023 Rotary year.  This "call" asks for nominations from any member to fill positions on the board.  Don't be shy about nominating yourself!   The positions include: Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Protection Officer, Sergeant-at-Arms, and 2 Directors.
Youth Services Update
Our club has a very active Youth Services component, led by Kathi Perkins. The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)  selection process is in full swing! Applications have been picked up from Gorham HS and interviews will take place this week.  Hopefully, there will be applications from Westbrook before they leave on school vacation.  Ethan Johnson, Dave Rolfe, and Kathi will handle the interviews and make the selections.  This year's RYLA will be held at Camp Hinds in Raymond June 26-29 for those completing the 10th grade.
Historic Twinning Agreement Signed
Two years of work with the Oradea Art Nouveau Rotary Club in Oradea, Romania culminated in the clubs forming an official twinning agreement.  Romanian members joined our Zoom meeting for our club's signing, then several of our members Zoomed in to the Romania meeting to observe their president, Sorina Bradea, sign on her club's behalf.
Lunch Notes
Since we are meeting in a Westbrook public school building, we need to be gracious guests and follow the current rules of the school.  Please enter only through the dining room door, not through the main entrance of the school.  Mask are required for everyone when not actively eating or drinking. We will plan to place a Rotary sign next to the dining room door each week.
