During the Club Assembly on January 19, 2021, President Kathi recapped 2020 - the bad along with the good.  We also discussed upcoming activities & action items, approved updated bylaws, and discussed other matters.

Recap of 2020:
  • On May 2nd we lost Bill Chadwick and on October 21st we lost Nelson Harmon. Both will be greatly missed by all
  • 5 members resigned during 2020, but we have added Mike Fandell and soon will be adding Crystal Brown – Welcome!
  • Thanks to Zoom, we have had guest speakers from other states and from Brazil!
  • We held three in-person meetings outdoors – 2 at Riverbank Park & 1 at Shaw Park
  • Our Golf Tournament was extremely successful, raising over $10K!!
  • Christmas tree sales were strong, with an early sell-put, and we sold a record number of wreaths. Numbers are not final, but we raised approx. $5600.
  • We continued to support Interact at both WHS and GHS and they helped us with the tree sale
  • Many local organizations received several thousands mask in two rounds of the Rotary Mask Challenge. We are hoping for a 3rd round in 2021
  • We supported immunization efforts by buying the iPads needed by Gorham Fire Dept for tracking
  • The house on Declaration Dr sold shortly before Christmas – Hooray!! The vocational committee will start meeting with WRVC Director Todd to discuss moving forward

Bylaws:
Proposed updated Bylaws were sent out to all members on January 8. Change highlights include:
  • Updates to reflect current club practices and align with Rotary International suggestions
  • Bond the Treasurer
  • Audit books semi-annually rather than annually
  • Update roles for Treasurer, Secretary and Sargent-at-Arms to reflect current practices
  • Sargent-at-Arms is elected by membership rather than appointed by the board
  • Remove reference to specific dues amounts as this is now set periodically by the board and approved by the membership

Other Bits & Pieces:
  • There are no big events scheduled for this half of the Rotary year. We hope to start meeting in the park as soon as it gets warmer. We likely cannot return to the WRVC until at least fall.
  • Ideas for places to meet over the spring and summer should be forwarded to President Kathi at kperkins1@myfairpoint.net
  • Ideas for how best to memorialize Bill and Nelson should also be sent to Kathi. For Bill, we discussed an annual GHS Interact Scholarship or supporting a water project. We are looking for ideas to honor Nelson.
  • Andrew Turcotte was nominated and agreed to become our PE this year, becoming President in 2021-2022. It was moved by Judith, seconded by Mike, and unanimously approved to accept and approve this nomination.Congratulations Andy!
  • By March Assembly, we need a Slate for next year.Kathi and Andrew will work on that.
  • USDA Food boxes are back on Main St Westbrook starting Thursday February 4th 9-1 (or until boxes run out).If you’d like to help, contact Scott Linscott.
  • Westbrook has been approved for a mass vaccination site. There may be an opportunity for our club to help in non-medical roles.PE Andy will keep the club in the loop.
