Our annual Lobster Bake at the home of Henry Saunders on Sebago Lake was well attended again this year. Nearly 60 people joined the fun, chowing down on lobster or steak, corn, and potatoes, along with various salads and desserts. While we dodged a few raindrops right at the start, the sky cleared and we enjoyed a great night of fun and fellowship.

During the festivities, President Deb Shangraw gathered us around the flag pole for the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer lead by Past President Bill Chadick. Past President Bill then presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Henry’s daughter Lesilie Saunders McManus. He also presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Kenneth Saunders, the late son of Henry and Marjorie Saunders. Henry proudly accepted the award on his behalf.

A huge thanks to the Saunders family for again hosting our lobster bake and for their generous support of the Rotary Foundation. Also, thanks to Dan Willett and Nelson Harmon for organizing, Walt and Ellen Stinson for cooking and Mike Foley for taking care of the steaks (and watching over the steak knives!).
The farmer/owners of Cabot have a program to recognize and reward volunteers. Recently, Jo Sabel Courtney, a representative of their Department of Gratitude made the rounds of Rotary clubs in southern Maine. She provided some individually wrapped cheeses as a small thank you for all the great work that Rotarians do. We enjoyed that cheese during our lobster bake.
If you register on the Cabot Reward Volunteers site and report hours, you can win cash and prizes for your good work, whether Rotary related or not. For more information, visit: https://rewardvolunteers.coop/
On June 19, 2018, our Foundation Chair Steve Rand and President 2017-2018 Bill Chadwick presented member Christine Johnson with a Paul Harris Fellow + 6.

Our annual Service Above Self Awards for graduating eighth graders at Westbrook Middle School were presented by Becky Albert on behalf of Westbrook-Gorham Rotary on Wednesday June 20, 2018 at an awards and recognition ceremony at the WMS auditorium. These students were selected by their teachers as exemplifying the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.
The winners were Quentyn May and Kayla Rairdon. The two students were recognized for being good citizens in and out of the classroom. Kayla, daughter of Gary and Laurie Rairdon, works on the Westbrook Strong 5K race that raises funds for the Matthew Rairdon Scholarship Fund. Quentyn also volunteers in the community and plays alto sax with an interest in jazz. Congratulations to both students.
Books were donated to the WMS Library in their honor. The book titles this year were: Build Your Own Rockets and Planes by ROB IVES and Chasing King's Killer: The Hunt For Martin Luther King Jr's Assassin by James Swanson.

Rotary is about fellowship, as well as service to our community. Even if you must miss a meeting, you can remain engaged by attending Rotary-sponsored events of our club or other clubs like fundraisers, by selling Christmas Trees, by volunteering at our Golf Tournament or our Road Race, or by attending District events or training. Just let our Secretary Mike Foley know when you have participated in any of these activities at mfoley@me.com
