Nathan Harris House
The Westbrook Historical Society was gifted the Nathan Harris House in Cumberland Mills by Pamela Pallas. She is the widow of Attorney Ray Pallas who had his offices in the house. Excerpts from American Journal October 2024: Nathan Harris, a well-to-do merchant, built the house in 1828; it was placed in the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Harris was born in Gorham in 1800 and is buried in the old Saccarappa Cemetery off Church Street in Westbrook. A $100,000 grant from the Cornelia Warren Community Association enabled the society to hire contractors. Much of the easterly exterior of the house has been replaced because of decay, and roofing repairs were completed. Many of the floors are original and will be stripped to their original appearance. Additional funds are needed to complete the restoration. She said the historical society has been approved for $15,000 in grant funds from the city of Westbrook’s Façade Program. The Nathan Harris House has a Facebook page and has a mailbox at 425 Main St., Westbrook. The Westbrook Historical Society can be reached at 854-5558. |
