25th Annual Golf Classic
It’s tournament time again!   Please dust off your address book and start making your contacts for Platinum Sponsors, Gold Sponsors, Hole Sponsors, and Teams.  We also need raffle prizes.  Raffle prizes can be golf-related or can be something like gift cards from local business and restaurants.  Suggested prize values range from $10-$50.

Check out our new golf website at https://westbrookgorhamrotarygolf.com/  At this site, you can select a sponsorship level, sign up a team or make a cash donation.   Hole sponsors can register and pay at this site too.   At check-out, those visitors purchasing Teams will be offered the opportunity to also purchase mulligans and raffle tickets.

As always, we will accept “off line” donations. If your contact writes a check to Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club charities, simply bring that check to a meeting or mail it to our PO Box 91, Westbrook, ME 04098.   For all sponsors you sign up, we ask that you send an email notification to golf@westbrookgorhamrotary.org so that the sponsor can be entered into the website in a timely manner.

For all sponsors, including hole sponsors, we ask that the company’s logo be sent to this same email address for use on the website and in tournament materials.

Let’s make this 25th Annual Tournament larger than any that have come before!
Cornhole 2019
The Gorham Business Exchange’s 5th Annual Cornhole Invitational will take place on Saturday October 26 at the Gorham Sports Center on Narragansett Ave in Gorham starting at 1PM.  Westbrook-Gorham Rotary has been asked to partner with them again this year on this great fundraiser.  Last year our share was $2000!

Teams of 2 are $50 through August 30, $60 thereafter.  Custom boards are $250. A subcommittee is currently working on sponsorship placement and pricing which will be new this year.

The next committee meeting is Wednesday August 14 at 7PM at Gorham House of Pizza. Look for more information after that meeting on how our club can help with this event.  If you’d like to join the committee, please contact Ethan Johnson ejohnson@chalmersinsurancegroup.com

Matching Program
During our meeting on July 30, President Mike Foley acknowledged a thank you letter from Through These Doors for our recent $50 donation.  That amount was our match for a donation made by member Judith Reidman.   As Mike noted, Westbrook-Gorham Rotary has a new matching program in place for the 2019-2020 Rotary year and Judith was the first to take advantage of it.

From now until June 30, 2020, make a one time $50 contribution to one of your favorite non-profit organizations in our community and Westbrook-Gorham Rotary will match it.  Just bring a copy of your receipt to any meeting or email it to treasurer@westbrookgorhamrotary.org.  Make sure a mailing address for the organization is included.

You can also join together with other members to support a single organization.  Just let the treasurer know who is participating.
Food Pantry Thank Yous
Card from Jean Reilly, Director of Westbrook Food Pantry thanking Westbrook-Gorham Rotary for our year-end $500 donation.

Letter from Brenda Caldwell of the Gorham Food Pantry Board of Directors thanking us for a year-end donation:
Middle School Library Thanks
Thank you note received from Suzanne Dix, Westbrook Middle School Librarian thanking us for our donation of two books in honor of the WMS Rotary Service Award winners.  Kathi Perkins presented the student awards at the end of June during the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony.

Ongoing Opportunities
Children's Books for Pantries - We continue to supply new and gently used children's books to food pantries about every two weeks. We have been fortunate to obtain a regular supply of used books from Goodwill Buy the Pound.  We also periodically obtain new books from a couple of sources at little cost. However, the need is always greater than the supply.  If you, a family member, friend or colleague have children or grandchildren who have outgrown their books, we'd love to have them to share with children who will love them.   All ages from babies to young teens. We can also always use large print books for older readers. Bring to any club meeting or contact Christine Johnson for pick up.

Can Tabs for Ronald McDonald House - Thank you for continuing to collect can tabs. It's and easy way to help a wonderful organization! Just keep a small plastic bag or small jar in your kitchen, on the counter or in a drawer.  As you go to toss your returnable can into your CLYNK bag, simply twist off the tab first.

CLYNK for Literacy - Ongoing -  Don't forget to keep filling those bags to help fund the children's books we ask our speakers to sign for the Baxter and Walker Libraries. Extra bags are always available at our meetings.  If you have been working on filling a bag for a very long time (6 months or more), please consider returning it and starting a new one.  Thank you for your ongoing support of this fundraiser!

Donate to our Club's Charity through Amazon Smile – Ongoing - If you order items from Amazon.com, even if not very often, you can help Westbrook Gorham Rotary Club Charities.  Go to http://smile.amazon.com/. Search for our Charity and select it. You may need to login to your Amazon account before being able to finalize your selection.   Then, when you shop Amazon.com (always starting from http://smile.amazon.com/) a portion of every purchase will be donated to our charity.

Volunteer at Preble St – Register as a volunteer then select as few or as many volunteer shifts as you want. These can be working in the Receiving Center accepting, sorting and stocking donations; helping prepare and/or serve breakfast, lunch or dinner; sorting or distributing food pantry items; or other activities listed on the volunteer page. For more information and to learn how to register as a volunteer: https://www.preblestreet.org/you-can-help/volunteer/
